Recently Hyundai coined the phrase “Meta Mobility. What is this exactly? What happens when you pair yourself with robots and connect them to the Metaverse? How will this concept impact our lives in the (near) future?
Before digging into the Meta Mobility concept, we will first give a brief explanation about the Metaverse concept itself.
The concept of Metaverse takes the whole internet experience and upgrades it to a three-dimensional space. This means that with the right equipment, VR headsets, users will be allowed to work, meet, game, and socialize together in these 3D spaces.
Chung Moong Koo, the chairman of Hyundai, proposed his vision of the Meta Mobility concept at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. In his idea, the Meta Mobility concept is an extension of our physical sense to other locations and times , reshaping and enriching our daily lives and leading to a world where "space, time, and distance will all become irrelevant."
Thanks to Meta Mobility, people can “transport themselves” to a different “real” world and experience it as such. For example; you can experience how it feels like to be going to the moon. You can select an avatar and pair yourself with a robot that is already on the Moon. You can experience the moon, via the sensors of the robot. The world you will be stepping in will not be virtually generated. It is something that the robot sees on the planet. The good thing is you don't need to be an astronaut to visit the Moon.
The fact that we as people can transport ourselves digitally to an existing place (or time) can be seen as the main difference between the Metaverse concept and the Meta mobility concept. To do this, we do not “only” need to create digital simulations. We need to work with robots, sensors and AI to transport the experience from one location to the other. Suppose a wind storm comes on the Moon. You will also feel the same wind against your own body.
Creating simulations out of experiences from other locations or times. It sounds like an interesting concept. But how will the Meta Mobility concept be used in everyday life?
In the future, we will be capable of not moving our things. Still, things will move around us, thanks to the innovation of Meta Mobility, which makes traditionally inanimate objects mobile. These innovations will lead to a bigger vision than we can ever imagine: the unlimited Mobility of Things ecosystem.
