Reinvent the NYMA area

NYMA - Reinvent the NYMA area

Next to the river 'Waal' is a large industrial area. For decades, thousands of people from the city of Nijmegen worked here. However, in 1969 NYMA went bankrupt. The iconic buildings of NYMA where left behind and have ever since remained vacant. Because the city of Nijmegen is expanding, the municipality is investing in this area to make it a vibrant place again. The municipality has asked us, along with our partner Wood&Apples, to invent a new identity and website for NYMA, focusing on the respect of its legacy.

Font use

NYMA is a raw area. Ready to be used again and to be of value for the community. The Roboto font is clear, readable but expresses a rawness that fits the identity of NYMA.

A statement

A colour is a statement. It helps you distinguish yourself and it defines your identity. Blue PMS 280  is a rich blue that resembles quality and technology. Blue is the colour of tech and industry and combined with Cool Gray it.

Color use

The concept behind the design was inspired by Gilbert and George. We have used the same simplicity in the color scheme and visuals. Presented in a grid of squares that lead to further interaction.

Logo & design

NYMA's old logo was almost perfect. We made a small revision to make it a sharper. We have also designed the website and build it using a Drupal 8 back-end and a AngularJS front-end.

Development

After running a few strategic brainstorm sessions we've realised the design. The website follows the concept of a digital magazine, serving the content straight from the homepage.

The website has been developed using Drupal 8 in combination with Angular. This makes it robust and easy to maintain. The website is fully responsive for multiply devices.

Behind the scenes we are constantly working on improving and smartening the website. Besides we assist NYMA with activating the website towards their broad audience.
